Children

Children with cancer are our priority. Maher Center provides them with recreational opportunities such as drawing and painting. We sponsor a monthly birthday party for all the children whose birthdays fall in that month and we invite neighborhood children and their families. We help children continue their studies while they are in treatment. In all that we do, we try to give children the feeling that they are normal, not defined only by their illness.

* After children leave the hospital, we follow up by visiting them in their homes and providing support for them and their families.
* Open days of Fun activities, theatre shows, clowns and picnics.

Families

* Providing psychosocial support, guiding and counseling, to the parents and the rest of the family, immediately by being informed about their child illness and during the long treatment of their child.
* Both individual and group sessions of psychosocial support.
* Talk with family members about how their child’s cancer is affecting them, helping them with their fears, sadness, anger, and grief.

Volunteers and Students

* MAHER CENTER provides training and professional development to volunteers in order to increase their skills in the area of childhood cancer.
* Recruit volunteers and social work students who work to alleviate the suffering of children with cancer and their families.
* MAHER CENTER provides supervision to both volunteers and trainers of local universities to protect themselves, improve their skills and knowledge.
* Develop an outreach team that can travel to isolated families to provide the services of the Center.

Community and networking

* Raise the awareness of the community about cancer, what it is, and how it affects the child and the family.
* Coordinate and network with local and international institutions that provide similar services in order to work together to address the unmet needs of the children and families.
* MAHER CENTER seeks to inform other areas of Palestine about our work and achievements.

Administrative

* MAHER CENTER document and evaluate our work in order to continually improve our services.
