Volunteers

All of the work of MAHER CENTER is conducted by a dedicated group of up to 30 volunteers who serve the Center in their free time outside of their salaried work or studies. They are the engine that drives the important work of our Center, including counseling the children and their parents, preparing parties to celebrate the children’s birthdays, bringing the families together to talk to each other and provide mutual support, involving the children in crafts and recreation, and administrative tasks.

Many of the volunteers are students at Al-Quds Open University and Bethlehem University. Some major in social work and do their field work at the Center. As such, they receive professional supervision and training in the side effects of cancer treatment, rehabilitation for cancer patients, and how to deal with the social and emotional impact of the disease on children and their families.

International Volunteers

A set of international volunteers are helping Maher Center from places such as USA and Spain.

Luis Fernández-Luque is in charge of the web site and social media tools of Maher Center.

The Board

A board with members from the local community is guiding MAHER Center since its re-foundation in 2010. The members of the board are:

  • Awatef Sobhi Nashashibi
  • Manal Idriss
  • Yahia Abu Sharif.

Our Friends

There are many individuals who have been supporting Maher Center with their support (emotional, in time and also monetary), it is impossible to mention all the friends. A friendly cooperative relationship exists many local and regional organizations, as will as with international organizations.
